A Dad Story
When Dad was in the Army back in World War II, the soldiers took turns cooking. None of them liked KP duty. In fact, they had a rule that whoever complained about the cooking was to be the next one to take over the chore.
One night, the soldier who was on KP duty made navy beans and over-salted them on purpose to avoid cooking again the next night.
When meal time came that day, the soldiers took turns filling their plates and settled in to eat.
It was immediately apparent what the cook had done, but the soldiers continued eating stoically.
But one guy just couldn’t hold it in.
“Damn, those beans are salty!” he exclaimed. Quickly realizing what he had done he went on to add, “But, BOY are they good!”
Every time Dad told this story, it was punctuated by one of his signature belly laughs. We couldn’t help but laugh along with him.
